🌿 Edible Trail Proposal: Growing a Healthier, Connected Lompoc
A Community-Centered Vision
We aim to transform Lompoc’s underused green spaces into a network of edible walking trails — vibrant corridors where people can connect, move, and nourish themselves through nature and community.
What Is the Edible Trail?
The Edible Trail is a proposed series of green corridors filled with edible and native plants — designed with community input to reflect local needs, culture, and environment.
Each trail would include:
🍊 Edible landscaping (fruit trees, herbs, native plants)
🌳 Shade, seating, and safe walking paths
🎨 Community-led design, art, and signage
🤝 Hands-on engagement through workshops and planting days
Why Lompoc?
Lompoc is rich in open space and community pride — yet many green spaces feel disconnected, underutilized, or unsafe. Community feedback has emphasized the need for:
Safer, more walkable neighborhoods
Intergenerational gathering spaces
Access to fresh food and nature
Community-driven projects that build trust and pride
The Edible Trail proposal responds to those needs while supporting health, equity, and climate resilience.

The proposed project spans 24 months and unfolds in three phases. It begins with planning and outreach, followed by planting, programming, and long-term stewardship.

Proposed Location
This pilot project proposes to enhance a segment of the Lompoc Riverbend Multi-Use Trail, a paved path that runs alongside the Santa Ynez River.

If funded and approved, this project would move forward with deep community involvement at every stage:
Listening sessions and site selection workshops
Youth internships and local artist partnerships
Volunteer planting days and trail builds

This proposal centers equity, access, and shared ownership — and would create a lasting legacy rooted in care.
